School
A calm note. No shame in it.

Policies differ. In Victoria, children can usually return the day after treatment starts, even with nits remaining. In Queensland, check your school’s handbook — many follow the same “treatment has started” line.
To the office at [school name], I am writing to let you know that we have been checking [child’s name] for head lice. Treatment has started as of today. We are checking household contacts and following the recommended repeat timing. Head lice are common in school-aged children and are not a reflection of hygiene. We are following current Queensland / Australian public-health guidance, checking household contacts, and happy to keep you updated. Thank you for supporting families through this in a calm, non-shaming way. Kind regards, Parent/carer 25 August 2026
